Stuck in the “Middle”…
Like Pete and CL, Primo and Guru (RIP), or more recently, Blu and Exhile, one listen to this gem, and you know that Jermiside and Danny Diggs are a match made in heaven. Classical production and cunning lyricism leads to repeat listens, which in turn reveals a high level of synergy that you just wouldn’t expect from a debut album. But, that’s what you get here.
Vancouver, BC-based beat maker Danny Diggs has a knack for taking me back to the best of times; beautiful snare + well-placed samples + a nice variety of instruments (strings, percussion, horns…it’s in there!) = me breaking out the ol’ Jansport. Not to say Diggs isn’t progressive…it’s just that his music reminds me of why I became obsessed with hip-hop in the first place.
I’m sure you’re wondering where the examples are: which beats are the best, where’s the lyrical excerpts, etc., etc. Here’s what you need to do: get out your iPod, go to “Albums,” select Middle Classic, hit shuffle, and whichever track begins to play, that’s a good cut. Seriously.
And I haven’t even mentioned the guest appearances, which include fellow Lessondary Crew-members Donwill and Von Pea among others! But they’re just icing on an already amazing cake. Oooh…a fat kid and cake! Like I said, some things are just meant to be together. Just like Jermiside and Danny Diggs.

Homeboy Sandman - Yeah, But I Can Rhyme Though
Sandman was a finalist in LOUD Records competition last year for a chance to win a deal and 50 Grand. All finalists were given a Jake One beat to make a song with, the beat has a gun noise in it, he does not rap over gun noises-- he hate guns and he hates violence and he tried to refuse the beat on moral grounds and was denied."The Good Sun" drops June 1st.

brandUn DeShay - Volume: Three! To Get Ready
After a few push backs, and a little wait time, brandUn DeShay dropped off his "Volume: Three! To Get Ready project/mixtape. I'll admit, I haven't heard much from Mr. DeShay but the teaser video below got me curious. Based on what URB had to say, I figured I'd download it and check it out. Oh yeah, Hulk hands FTMFW...haha.

Get Scurrrrrd!
Man…just caught this over at the first-stop – FAM! This. shit. right. here…this is what the fuck I’m talkin’ ‘bout!! Dope beat…insightful lyrics…I am feelin’ this one. Love the video as well; nice use of timelapse, color and effects – feels like a cross between Devil’s Advocate and The Ninth Gate (although, I didn’t know people still shot in SD – ha!).
Definitely gonna give Jermiside & Danny Diggs’ Middle Classic a listen today – if it’s a Hip-Nott release, you know it’s gotta be good! I’ll let y’all know what I hear later, but if it sounds anything like “Afraid,” I think you can guess what to expect!

Sol - Dear Friends, Vol. 2
Dear Friends,
I present to you my best work yet, “Dear Friends, Vol. II”. This series of EPs is not just a collection of free music, but art I have made for you from me. I write these songs free of premeditation and creative limitation, but not free from hardwork and pursuit of perfection. If you know me, you already know this about me.
Its been a good journey. Twenty-One years old, and now four records deep! I can honestly say I enjoy making music more than anything in the world. The dopest part is that this is just the beginning! My second full-lenth album is already in the works…
Please spread the music, the love, life.

Philly's Reinvention...
Just got something new and interesting through the inbox today that I thought I would share with y'all. Reinvention is a duo out of Philly made up of one DJ (DJ Entendu) and one emcee (Classic) who...
mixes old school hip-hop production with samples from an eclectic mix of artists like Grizzly Bear, Florence and the Machine, Feist and others to make bangers that can appeal to anybody from a dancing fiend to a top-down, wind-in-your-hair, cross-country roadtripper.I'm not usually one for "mash-up" type material but this is kinda dope. It's not necessarily a "mash-up" in the sense of the Jay-Z/Linkin Park type, but more adding hip-hop production to some indie rock and then letting Classic rhyme his own lyrics over top. The first single from their mixtape "A Rapper In Denial", Forgot (feat. Florence and The Machine) dropped last week and Crossroads dropped on Tuesday. The mixtape will drop sometime in the next couple weeks. You can pick that up from the homies over at Pigeons and Planes. For now you can peep and download the above tracks at their Soundcloud page.
T.I.T.S. Brand World Cup Series Tees
With the 2010 World Cup just around the corner (22 days) the good people at T.I.T.S. have brought out their World Cup Series Tees. The unfortunate thing for some of you is that not all 32 countries participating have a tee...
"When this idea came about we knew that we would not have enough time to make the quality of shirt that our fans are used to seeing if we did a tee for every country. So instead we picked 9 and made sure that they were up to the caliber that our customers have grown to love about our brand,” says founder Marek Grubel. The lucky countries are Brazil, Spain, USA, England, Denmark, France, Germany, and Italy. Yeah, I realize that is only 8...guess the 9th is gonna be a surprise. You know come June 12 for the US vs. England match, ya boy is gonna be sportin one of these...

AYCE Investigates: The Weezy Diaries
For the other 15 of you, March 9th was like the day your dog died; when the last of your resin ball went up in smoke…yes, the day your favorite flavor of Robo was sold out – everywhere! Fear not Weezy F. Baby heads, we got you.
See, we got friends everywhere, just waiting for their call: from Portland to Poland, Riyadh to…Rikers? Yes, that’s right; we even have AYCE correspondents on the inside. Of course, normally I hang up as soon as I hear anything about a collect call, but
Friends, our boy Oswald was able to get his hands on what will go down as one of hip-hop’s most coveted documents. For a paltry pack of Pall Malls and a Slim Jim, O.B. was able to purchase the prison diary of one Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. So, for all you heads out there jonesin’ for a peek inside Birdman Jr.’s incarcerated life, we went through and picked out some of the highlights for you in a new installment of AYCE Investigates.
BLISS N ESO – Down By The River
We were introduced to these Aussies last fall, during a weekend of depravity and disorderly conduct in Seattle. Some adventures included, but were not limited to: public intoxication (duh) and/or urination, heckling Detroit Lions fans (not smart, they could have burned the city down), flying objects in the bar, and just having fun at other people’s expense. I hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feel-bads. Anyway, you can read all about that HERE.
We chilled with BLISS N ESO for a little bit after the Swollen Members show, and they were real nice dudes. They just laughed when Benny told them we got too hammered at the Seahawks game and missed their set, and they weren’t even pissed when they realized Mad Child had given their Heinekens to these two annoying Juggalo kids. It’s a long (and weird) story.
Back to the matter at hand, they just announced their 4th Studio Album: “Running On Air” coming late July. Take a listen to the first single, and stay tuned.
If you like what you hear, hit 'em up: BlissNEso.com, Twatter, fAYCEbook, or myspAYCE, whatever that is. Peace.

From the Inbox...May 12th
The first comes from the big homey Rev out in Beantown...as he and fellow EMS crew member spit a few bars over Elzhi and Royce's "Motown 25".
The Physics dropped a new 3 track EP this week, "Three Piece". Oh, and incase you missed out on their"High Society EP" you can pick that up here.
Virginia native MC, Tony Moon, sent through his 6 track "Sacred Sounds EP" done with producer Van Ark and collectively know as Double Heelix. This may not be for everyone, it took a couple listens for me to get into it but dude is lyrical. Definitely worth checking out. Stream and cop the EP here.
Last, but certainly not least, Tanya Morgan dropped their video for Bang and Boogie earlier this month. Donwill was kind enough to send it through and remind me how truly dope these dudes are, and further affirms my thought that Brooklynatti is the most slept on album of 2010. It's a damn shame.... Oh and don't forget to mark your calendar...Donwill and Von Pea's "The Sandwich Shop" mixtape drops May 18th with production entirely done by a little band called The Roots.
I'm finally outta here...peace.
The Good Sin at Jet Set...
So like I said in the previous post, our night was just getting started...and yes I realize this flyer is old but I believe it still rings true! After the Helladope show we headed out to Jet Set at The Capitol Club. This is one of those "every Monday night" events that I had been to in the past, but will definitely frequent more often. My dude Brainstorm took me there one night when Fatal Lucciauno was performing...and I think it was DeVon's (of Sport'n Life) birthday or something. TaySean had mentioned it at the end of their show, so the lady and I decided to check it out.
The Capitol Club is a restaurant downstairs and a small lounge upstairs fit with all the comforts of home well the important ones anyway...couches and liquor with a few table sprinkled here and there and a nice patio. So we got some drinks and proceeded to chill and listen to DJ Swervewon on the wheels. The crowd was full of, and probably always is, the some of the notables of Seattle hip-hop...J.Moore, Vitamin D, JakeOne, Grynch, and Helladope, just to name a few. Oh and before I forget, props to Swerve on the masterful mix of old and new Wu-Tang, Raekwon, Ghost that lasted most of his whole set. That shit was filthy man.
The "special guest" of the night was local artist The Good Sin. To keep with the theme for the night dude was hella dope. Sin is not a small dude either, the damn mic looked like a pencil in his hand as he spit a few tracks from his mixtape "Ready or Not" while Vitamin D took the opportunity to throw ice at him. It was kinda funny. Vita would later say that he was basically "testing his focus"...! Sin was making his way through the crowd selling his mixtape for a steal at $5. When he finally hit our table he said to my lady friend, "Girl I saw you rockin with me...wanna get my cd?" We dug into our pockets, but both came out empty handed (who the hell carries cash anymore)...fml. Dude handed her a copy and said something like "A beautiful woman should have good music". Now I can't be completely certain that's what was said, I was more than a few drinks into the night, but it's probably pretty close. He introduced himself to us, chatted a bit, and was on his way. I'm about halfway through the tape and it's pretty good, no complaints from me. Check out the link below for his mixtape and hit him up on the twitta.

A Helladope Monday night...
For those of you that aren't up to speed, Helladope is made up of TaySean (beats & vocals) and Jerm (vocals). If I were to classify them, which I guess I am, I would say they are a jazzy, funky, spaced out hip-hop tandem. Their recent release "Helladope" is just that...a funked out space voyage with song titles like Cosmic Voyage, This Is My Planet, THEE Trip, and We Come In Peace. These dudes have immense talent...from Tay on production to both as emcees and vocalists. Yeah, I said vocalist...these dudes can sing too. On Rainwater, Jerm breaks out with a soulful "Girl you're fresh like rainwater, let your love fall down on me" hook that I'm sure is enough to make more than one pair of panties moist. My favorite track, Just So You Know, which also serves as the lead single is strait dope. With features from THEESatisfaction, GMK, and the whole Cloud Nice family the fact is, front to back, beginning to end, however you want to put it...this album is a great listen. Last I checked there wasn't many places to pick it up online, but hit them up here and maybe they can work something out.
So now about the show. The show was opened by Yirim Seck who did a nice job opening (rocked the mic, kept the crowd involved, etc) right up until he was due to share the stage with LaRue...but LaRue was nowhere to be found. I minor shake up, but you could sort of tell that Yirim was a little irritated. He moved on until, LaRue finally showed up and then they could do their songs together. I gotta say, once he finally got there though, they did a nice job. LaRue is my guy, a friend of a friend, and a cool cat but how the hell are you gonna be late man! All in all, I thought Yirim was great. It had been a while since I had seen him on stage. I think the last time was a few months ago at Nectar with Big World Breaks.
Lemme just give a little background, as I stated before, The Triple Door is/has been more of a jazz, soul/R&B venue. There are plush booths, with waiters and waitresses that come and take your food and beverage order...not your average standing room, general admission, raucous hip-hop venue. The stage at The Triple Door is big, not huge, but bigger than most hip-hop venues like Showbox, Chop Suey, The Croc, or Nectar so two dudes and a DJ stand looked pretty small up there. So it was a bit of a different experience.

Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx - Nobody
This video has been sittin’ in the inbox for a few days, but it definitely has NOT gotten stale. I thought I’d put it up just in case somebody out there missed it. Unlike Catch, my credentials don’t warrant any right to critique this shit, but fuck that. In my unprofessional opinion, it’s DOPE.
Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx “The Exxecution” is out Right.

AYCE Starts the 12 Step Program
Don’t trip…we don’t judge here at AYCE (unless you listen to Ke$ha – in which case we hate you). Actually, we like to help foster your addiction around these parts. Think of me, Benny and Brainslice as your sponsors…better yet, facilitators: helping guide you into a state of unadulterated hip-hop-induced euphoria. Our drug of choice today: Panacea.

On this raw and emotional show we have:
Dogg Pound's verbal gymnast, Kurupt, joins us live from a casino to talk Suge Knight, early Death Row days, the future of Dogg Pound and more, in a lucid interview, filled with character and gusto. This is an interview as rough and unpredicatable as Kurupt's vocal styling itself - listen as he freestyles for over 3 minutes whilst walking through one of America's biggest casinos, totally oblivious to those around him. He is one of a kind and this 30 minute stretch, personifies that. Westcoast gold.
Solar is a wanted man. His involvement with Guru and the heavily publicised events surrounding Guru's untimely death, have been at the forefront of the entire hip hop community since Keith Elam's sad passing on April 9th. Eager to defend his position and explain his actions, Solar agrees to a feature-length interview in which he addresses every accusation and attempts to provide evidence that he only wanted what what was best for his friend, Guru. Listen and be the judge as we deliver a detailed and raw head-to-head with hip hop's bad guy.
Nardwuar The Human Serviette steps onto the show, overflowing with all the energy and enthusiasm you have come to expect and love from one of the most prolific interviewers in musical history. Nardwuar recalls specific interviews, such as Tom Green demanding that his interview tape with Nardwuar, simply because of jokes HE had said about ex-wife Drew Barrymore. In all honesty, a simple text description cannot do this interview justice - an essential listen.
We take time out to say Farewell To Guru but rather than following the generic paths of simply playing Gangstarr records and talking amongst ourselves. Mista Montana and Menace choose to speak with the people who knew Guru and reflect upon his life both as musician and a man.
Noreaga steps in, filled with emotion and stories of Keith Elam, as does Masta Ace who recalls numerous stories regarding Guru's positive influence and guidance.Big Shug is with us, telling his account of how he taught Guru to rhyme and helped form the Gangstarr Foundation. Blaq Poet is extremely emotional and can speak of nothing else but the importance of Guru upon his life and hip hop as a whole. Jacky Japser passes through to take things in a different direction regarding truths about Guru's personal life and the violence he had witnessed Guru being subjected to. In addition to this Hot 97's flagship DJ, Peter Rosenberg, steps in to tell his side of recent events, as well as stories of Guru and Solar interviews and teasing us about another edition of his collaboration with Montana and Menace, Three's The Magic Number radio show. Be prepared for mixed emotions as a listener, as we take you on a journey which is as heart-warming as it is saddening.
THANK YOU to all of our listeners and supporters for helping us remain in the Number 1 position in the Global Hip Hop/Rap Podcast Charts! Real Hip Hop continues the fight.
