K-Murdock bitches…..

Our friend K-Murdock has been busy touring and cookin’ up shit in the lab, but he managed to take a break and throw a lil’ somethin’ our way. Peep:

megaran comic art

First off, go download “Bedrock City” for FREE. Recorded by K and Random (aka MegaRan) at a comic book store in Houston during their recent tour. I’m not even going to make a clever comment about comic book nerds right here, because I don’t have one. Why are these drugs not working?

Work drugs. Next, You might wanna check out his holiday single (I know, I know. Better late than never though) "A Christmas Story" featuring Random and another Arizona MC called Mr. Miranda.

The DL features the song, instrumental, and a bonus beat called "Winter Soulstice". Go get it. In fact, if there’s anything on his Bandcamp site that you DON’T have, get that too. Support real Hip Hop.

The drugs are not working. Time to hit that whisky. Peace.

JusMoni - Ready For Life

As much as the Seattle hip-hop scene is burgeoning right now, the R&B/NeoSoul scene is doing the same with the likes of Choklate, Darrius Willrich, Lace Cadence, Isabella Du Graf and others. One that I  have recently become familiar with is Seattle singer/songwriter JusMoni who will be releasing her new Album/EP, "Ready For Life" this week. The homey Jordan sent it through for me to have a listen.

"Ready For Life" is a 9 track journey through the mind, heart, and soul of a 17 year old, but please do not judge her on her age, the trials of single parenthood have provided a maturity beyond those 17 years. It's hard to imagine that at the young age of 17 a person would have so much depth and meaning in the things they have to say. When I try and think back to that age all I can remember is the struggle of having to get up and go to school every day...seems meager in comparison to the verses on JusMoni's "Ready For Life". The production is beautiful, with a laid back jazzy/soul vibe thanks to likes of  Kuddie Fresh, Tay Sean, KD Cutz, and Crispy.

The first single, Can We, features Lace Cadence and is produced by Kuddie Fresh. This joint seems to be about making a connection on a deeper, more personal level...breaking down walls. An intimate track for sure. On Never Too Late, JusMoni sings along side Khingz about changing the past  "wanna right all of my wrongs/put it all into this song/before it's to late". Parker Joe (of State of the Artist) jumps on the KDCutz produced Just Crazy and shows out. I really dig his verse and this joint as a whole.

Probably my favorite joint on the album, Almost Lover is produced by Tay Sean and features The Good Sin. Almost Lover is an artistic play on the relationship between a man and woman when a child is involved. Sin portrays a character who is unable to deal with dating a single mother...because he feels that the child needs a "father figure" and his character is "too busy focused on these goals". JusMoni later raps "my prince doesn't need a father to survive/but the kings that surround him gonna bring him up right" and says goodbye to her "almost lover".

The album is an easy listen from start to finish. I expect to hear more from JusMoni as she continues to develop her voice and sound, she is definitely on the right track. If your around on December 22nd join JusMoni at Chop Suey for the "Ready For Life" CD release party, check out the flyer below. She will be joined by Brothers From Another, Khingz, Rocky Rivera, DJ WD4D, and hosted by Madline Tha Lioness. Should be a good show. Physical copies of the album will be available at the show or check out JusMoni's bandcamp on the 22nd to purchase and download. Peace.

Let’s Get Faded…

Hola amigos, what’s good?  I hope Benny don’t mind me posting on his blog, but… LOL.  Anyways, I got Faded_2introduced to Triple J a couple months ago, and definitely liked what I was hearing.  When I got hit with a note about his newest project, an eight-week, eight-song extravaganza, titled Tequilla Mockingbird, I was eagerly anticipating the first chapter (as they’re calling it).  You might have already seen this one out there on the innanets, as I’m slow posting this one – Santa been busy trying to make some ends, you know? – but if not, here’s what you’re missing:

Produced by Langesta (who also throws a guest verse), “Faded” fittingly samples “I’m Back For More” by Leo’s Sunshipp (which you mighta heard on that Johnson&Jonson “Wow” joint).  It’s a sample that lends itself well to this upbeat party joint.

With shades of Quik’s “Tonite,” Triple J takes us with him on a Friday night bender.  It’s a far turn from the hungry, almost inspirational, tone of Of Mics and Men, but sometimes you gotta take a break from the grind, no?   Anyway, move your mouse down to the link below and download the first part of Tequilla Mockingbird – you don’t wanna be the one saying “wha happen?” when the second chapter drops do you?

All I Wanna Do...(No Sheryl Crow)

It was the dude Sol's birthday the other day and he had been begging Grynch to drop his new single, All I Wanna Do, which happens to feature Sol. So, like a good friend, Grynch dropped the track as a birthday gift to Sol and early Christmas for the rest of us! This shit sounds nice...

Mike Classic - Pandora's Box

Queens reppin Mike Classic dropped a new joint a few days ago, Pandora's Box, to quench the thirst of those waiting for some new joints. Be on the lookout for the new album in early 2011. Enjoy...

LaRue - I Can Only Be Me (2006)

This past weekend the homey LaRue joined the AYCE crew at Qwest Field for the Seahawks dismantling of the Panthers...must be our good luck charm. We got to chatting about his music, and music in general, and his freshman album "I Can Only Be Me" released in 2006. The album is produced by Rising Son, one of Seattle's finest, and is dope. One joint in particular that sticks out is I'm A Soldier...NOT this kind either. It's a straight from the heart and mind of a person, a soldier, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The honesty in the track is why I think this track sticks out to me. Anyway, my dude hooked us up with a copy and gave us the freedom to post away. Hit the link below and hit up the guy on twitter and let him know what you think. Peace.

M-Dot - M.aking D.oubters O.ver T.hink

Fresh off is victory as "Hip-Hop Artist of the Year" at the 2010 Boston Music Awards and winner of the 2010 Boston Phoenix "Best Hip Hop Act" M-Dot dropped the second of his acronym series "Making Doubters Over Think". The mixtape is hosted by Billy Danze (of M.O.P) and presented by HipHopDXDJ BoothKevin Nottingham5StarHipHop & WERS 88.9FM. It also includes appearances from Masta Ace, Chaudon, Rapper Big Pooh, the EMS Crew and more. Check it out.
